Beneath The Surface: Advanced Diagnostics for Dogs
For a comprehensive assessment of your dog's health, we utilize advanced imaging and diagnostic tools to detect subtle changes and diagnose injuries or illnesses. All our digital imaging diagnostics are reviewed by a board-certified radiologist.
Diagnostic Services for Dogs
CT Unit
CT imaging provides a detailed, three-dimensional view of your dog's internal body structures. This advanced tool helps in detecting and treating conditions affecting tissues and organs with greater precision.
Ultrasound
For a clearer look at your dog's abdominal organs, we use ultrasound technology. This non-invasive procedure produces real-time, 2D images of internal structures, allowing us to evaluate organ texture, shape, and blood supply.
In-House Laboratory
Our in-house lab allows us to quickly analyze blood, fecal, and urine samples. This is particularly critical in emergency situations where timely results can make a significant difference in your dog's treatment plan. Most results are available within 1-2 hours.
Digital X-Rays
Digital X-ray imaging helps us detect various health concerns in dogs, including:
- Arthritis
- Bone fractures
- Foreign bodies
- Hip dysplasia
- Tumors
- Dental damage below the gum line

Dog Diagnostic Imaging — Frequently Asked Questions
What imaging services are available for dogs at Columbia Pike?
We offer in-house digital radiography (X-rays), ultrasound, and CT scanning. Each modality serves different diagnostic purposes — X-rays are best for bones and chest, ultrasound for soft tissue and abdominal organs, and CT for complex injuries or masses requiring detailed 3D views.
Does my dog need to be sedated for imaging?
It depends on the type of imaging and your dog's temperament. Many dogs tolerate X-rays without sedation. Ultrasound is non-invasive and typically well-tolerated. CT scans require sedation or general anesthesia to keep your dog still for accurate results.
How fast will I get results?
Digital X-rays and ultrasound results are reviewed immediately — your vet discusses findings with you the same day. CT results may take slightly longer to fully evaluate but are still available quickly in-house.
Can you do emergency imaging at night?
Yes. Our imaging equipment is available around the clock. If your dog is injured or critically ill, we can obtain X-rays, ultrasound, or CT images 24/7 as part of the emergency evaluation — no extra ER fee applies.
What if my dog needs imaging beyond what you offer?
For highly specialized studies like MRI, we will provide a referral to an appropriate specialist. We coordinate closely with specialty centers to make the transition as smooth as possible for you and your dog.
